About & ownership

NewsReverse is an accountability-focused news publication based in New Delhi, India, and established in 2026. We report on power and the institutions that hold it, and we try to do so in a way that you can check for yourself. Our name reflects our approach: rather than take official accounts at face value, we work backwards from them to the evidence, and we show our working.

What NewsReverse is

We are a general-interest publication with a particular interest in accountability journalism, the kind of reporting that asks who decided what, on whose behalf, with what money, and with what consequences. We link to primary sources so you are not asked to take our word for it. We label what we have verified and what we have not. We correct our mistakes in public. These commitments are set out in detail in our editorial standards, and every correction we make is logged on our corrections page.

We want to be candid about where we are in our life as a publication. NewsReverse is new. We do not have a decades-long archive, a large staff, or a long list of past work to point to, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can offer from day one is a clear standard for how we work and a willingness to be held to it. We would rather earn your trust slowly and honestly than claim a reputation we have not yet built.

Independence and funding

Our editorial decisions are ours alone. Nobody outside the newsroom, including any advertiser, sponsor, or commercial partner, decides what we cover or how we cover it. As a small and new operation, our costs are modest, and we intend to support our work through a combination of clearly labelled advertising, reader support, and, where appropriate, sponsorship that is always disclosed and always kept separate from our journalism. We are describing our approach in general terms because that is the honest thing to do: we are not going to publish specific revenue figures, donor names, or funding claims we cannot substantiate. If our funding model changes in a way that could affect our independence, we will say so on this page.

Where a story touches the interests of NewsReverse or the people who own it, we disclose that interest in the story itself. Staff and contributors disclose conflicts of interest and step back from coverage where a conflict cannot be managed.

Ownership

NewsReverse is an independently owned publication operated from New Delhi. It is not owned or controlled by a political party, a government body, or a larger media conglomerate. As our structure develops, we will keep this section current so that readers always know who stands behind the publication.
